About An Talla

An Talla was established in 2002 to meet a need for community facilities, due to the old hall no longer being fit for purpose.  The previous hall was built during the war and the fabric of the building was such, that it would not be feasible to refurbish.  The An Talla committee was formed to identify what the need on the island was and identify the kind of hall that would meet these needs now and for the long term future.  The original plan was to develop a much larger building to cater for all groups on the island, however, this was modified to deliver a more affordable and feasible facility. The community owned the land at Crossapol accommodating the old hall and this was demolished to provide land for the new hall.

An Talla community hall was designed to deliver purpose built community leisure and recreation space on the island and An Talla board and the wider community secured over £700,000 funding from a range of sources.  An Talla Community Hall and small 6kw wind turbine to be built, and in July 2004 the hall was opened.

An Talla was formed in 2002 as a Company Limited by Guarantee with charitable status.  The company is governed by a board of  volunteer directors, who bring a range of expertise and skills.  An Talla Board meet monthly with updates and communications electronically.
